A Man & His Guitar
Posted by: | Comments
I started looking around Freelance Folder a few months back, and thought I would try my hand at writing. I submitted an article and actually got one published.
Keeping the Creative Juices Flowing - Following the links through out Freelance Folder, I ran into the Heavy Act that the founder - Jon Phillips plays guitar for. I am not real versed in Heavy Metal Rock, but this is a band to be on the look out for if you are.
I was intrigued to say the least at the photo’s of the band members, there is something that is just bad ass about them, they emanate what the rock scene is all about, bringing out and showing the core of the musician’s.
I wrote to Jon and asked if it was alright to sketch this particular picture of him and his PRS-Paul Reed Smith Guitar, he was more than happy to send me the original photo so that I could get to work. There was just something about this particular picture…
I incorporated the Gods of Now logo around Jon to give it more attitude. The PRS Guitar was done in black charcoal to stand out a little bit more on Jon’s shoulder.
This project really was fun to see come to life, it continues to fascinate me how much we can find through the internet and how much talent is out there that we are completely unaware of.
Again, I say, it’s like taking a road trip from your cushy office chair.
Add some Practical Magic to your life
Posted by: | CommentsSandra Bullock has played in many movies and been on many magazine covers, all and out one of my favorite ladies of my generation. She’s tough, sexy, sweet and has a “essence” about her.
From Demolition Man to A Time to Kill
she came into our lives full force with that witty smile, and simple shyness. Where she fiddles with the cuffs of her long sweaters…and the classic lines out of Demolition Man -as Lenina Huxley
Lenina Huxley: Looks like there’s a new shepherd in town.
[Spartan gives her an exasperated look]
John Spartan: That’s sheriff.
Lenina Huxley: Chief, you can take this job, and you can shovel it.
John Spartan: Take this job… and shovel it.
Lenina Huxley: Yeah?
John Spartan: Close enough.
Lenina Huxley: I have, in fact, perused some newsreels in the Schwarzenegger Library, and the time that you took that car…
JohnSpartan: Hold it. The Schwarzenegger Library?
Lenina Huxley: Yes. The Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn’t he an actor when you…?
JohnSpartan: Stop! He was President?
Lenina Huxley: Yes! Even though he was not born in this country, his popularity at the time caused the 61st Amendment which states…
JohnSpartan: I don’t wanna know. President…
Practical Magic is one of my favorites, and this movie will always hold a special place in my heart for the bonds that it brought into my life with two other very special woman - I can’t be put into words what they mean to me, nor will I try.
Practical Magic is about Magic, Spirits, Sisterhood and bonds. Several years ago, one of those very special woman showed up on my doorstep, on the evening that I lost my best friend…. needless to say, there was a little turmoil between the friend I had lost, and the friend on my doorstep.. reaching out to me in a time of need, here stood on my doorstep, the last person I expected to see.. given the volatility of the relationship between the two of them…
The two special women above are Mother & Daughter … and one is fighting breast cancer - Practical Magic somehow became our safe haven of laughter.. I said.. some one showed up on my doorstep…and now, if we need a laugh.. a classic line out of the movie Practical Magic is in regards to the tequila bottle.. a potion - belladonna laced tequila bottle, that ….. “someone left it on the porch”
There is a point in the movie..where sisters are lying on the floor facing each other, one in dire trouble.. the other encouraging her to push on… there have been many late evening text messages with heads on the pillow, tears in the eyes, and messages sent of encouragement throughout the years, months & days. Amas Veritas = True Love, from the movie and fitting for all parts of our lives..
Love those around you, truly.. listen to those around you, encourage those around you, be apart of those around you, for we never know how long they have been lent to us.
Another famous Sandra Bullock line… “you…wanna…kiss me!” Go Kiss someone you love.. for no reason!
A Star is Born - Judy Garland
Posted by: | Comments
A 45 year career, and a life of 47 years….and versatility was Judy Garland. Acting on stage in musicals & drama’s as well as being a recording artist with what is called a contralto voice, she won many awards for her accomplishments.
Being self conscious about her appearance, Judy Garland struggled, some executives even told her that she was unattractive and overweight. I wonder what they looked like?
As young as 12 years old, the talent and the voice was astounding, a young girl dreaming of Clarke Gable and has this to say….. You Made Me Love You
I looked through several pictures of Judy Garland, watched a few video’s and enjoyed walking down memory lane. I can visualize my mother at this time. There seemed to be an air about woman, different than it is now and I can’t quite explain it. I guess it was because not everything was just put out there as it is now a days. There was still “things” left to the imagination.
A Star is Born - I think of Barbara Striesand and Kris Kristofferson and the final scene, but long before that, there was Judy Garland as Norman’s Wife.. with the heartbreaking ending.
Enjoying those that we know little about is really what I got out of this post, finding out information about someone who passed long before I was born. I am looking forward to talking with my mom about Judy Garland and getting the mental pictures from her - from a time long passed.
Sophia Loren & Self Discovery
Posted by: | CommentsAfter all these years, I am still involved in the process of self-discovery. It’s better to explore life and make mistakes than to play it safe. Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life. Sophia Loren
Self discovery can be found in those lonely hours in the middle of the night when something startles you awake, an emotion, an action or something that has occurred in your life that you don’t understand.
This moment of self discovery, is a growing process, and seems to be something we can not escape. How do we handle these moments in our life when something continues to eat at us?
I am trying to come to the realization that when we try and figure out the actions of those around us, we loose our own self-discovery and our growth comes to a stand still.
I had a dream last night, involving a man.. NOT what you think.. a man that was threatened by my knowledge and kindness. A man that stunted my growth for too long, so how and why did I give him the power to enter into my sub-conscious mind and wake me in the middle of the night, so that I could stew on all the negativity he brought into my life?
I’ve long since moved past this experience in my waking world, but somewhere at my core, his negativity still lives. I have to wonder when we run into people that are mountains of negativity, what do they dream about, what haunts them? Do they wake in the middle of the night fighting with what is at their core? Are they learning & growing from being negative to those around them? When will their moment of self discovery happen, can anything we do change them?
I don’t have the answers, and the best approach I have found is one that I learned from John Edward in his Crossing Over cd set where you must visualize yourself surrounded by mirrors that are reflecting out, and you are protected, the mirrors will reflect back the negativity of the person that is standing in front of you. It’s funny to see how uncomfortable and fidgety these type of people get when you work on this exercise.
I’ve never tried to block out the memories of the past, even though some are painful. I don’t understand people who hide from their past. Everything you live through helps to make you the person you are now. Sophia Loren
