Magic Sam

All Your Love & Magic- live each day to it’s fullest, focus on the positve, and eliminate the negative. Life is to short!

I have to admit, this one I learned from my sixteen year old son, his music knowledge never ceases to amaze me. When he talks about music, he doesn’t talk about Green Day or Linkin Park these days, it’s been about the blues.

If you do not know this man - let me introduce you:

Magic Sam - Gene Maghett - b) 2/14/1937 d) 12/1/1969.

Jake showed me a video of him on youtube - and wow! All Your Love and Magic Sam’s Boogie. Playing with greats like Charlie Musselwhite and Homesick James Williamson.

Magic Sam was drafted in 1950 to the army, realizing he was not much of a soldier, this was when he deserted the army, paying the price with six months of prison time. Beginning in 1963 he began to gain the attention for his bluesy ability.

At the age of 32 Magic Sam lost his life to a heart attack, gaining the recognition he deserved was cut short for this man. It is for so many, friends & family of any of us. Live each day to the fullest, enjoy those around you. Yesterday I attended a Native American Pow Wow, we honored many veterans, elders and family.

Take a moment today to honor someone!

Jim Morrison - Break on Through

Posted by: User ImageSusie  //  Category: Pencil Sketches

Jim Morrison Sketch DrawingBreak on through to the other side! We chased our pleasures here, dug our treasures there.  But can you still recall, the time we cried?

Jim Morrison’s elusive behavior through out the late sixties defined his persona.  Man of mystery, enchanting and mesmerizing.   The moment his lips touched the microphone’s and the music came from the depths of his tortured soul, the audience was captivated and could not get enough of the creature they demeaned “adonis”

Truly a magnificent looking man, Jim’s ungovernable behavior through out his entire career seemed to only add to that mystic.   Appearing to be catatonic like often times on stage, Jim’s energy drew any crowd into his very own ritualistic ceremonies.

In my opinion one of the best live performances of The Doors is Live In Pittsburgh 1970 - as many of my readers know, I am a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan Fan, and one of my favorites of Stevie’s is Close to You off The Sky is Crying (Willie Dixon) - The Doors - Ray Manzarek sings this song on this 2 CD Set as well, and it just kick’s bootie!

This is one of my first sketches of Jim that I ever did, the original is now in the hands of a very nice young man Patrick that I work with.  He takes care of all my shipping needs! Done in woodless graphite, and using a light smudging technique, I didn’t go over board with the blending, because I wanted it to be a little more crisp.

Tropical Painting & Island Lake Tanning and Travel

Posted by: User ImageSusie  //  Category: Pencil Sketches, island lake tanning, paintings

Tropical Painting Palm Trees OceanIf anyone knows me, they know that I do not like winter. If it snowed two days a year, that is one too many. Christmas day with snow is fine in my book but after that, it’s bring out the beach towel and give me sand between my toes, a good book and the beach.

Oh-and do not forget the Corona Light - that’s a staple!

As life dicates, that is not yet able to happen. So, I find pleasure in painting and drawing the tropical sunsets and beaches.

Thanks to Island Lake Tanning & Travel - they book ‘em and brown ‘em and I give them a little taste of paradise during the snow filled dreary days.

Go figure, she owns a Tanning Salon - that would be Jennifer Koeppen and her husband Bob Koeppen owns a snow plowing company.

I have been able to display alot of my art work, from pencil drawings to paintings. Here is a piece of a piece that hangs in the salon. Alot of the material I use is found in the junk or in recycled piles that people have tossed to the curb. (thanks buck) This is actually a piece of old used cardboard that I took from Primeline, Inc. when I worked for Sully!
